Below are 6 car-related events that can change your insurance needs, costs, and eligibility that we’ll only know about if you tell us:

  1. When your vehicle is deemed a total loss by another party’s insurance claim (and often times your own carrier).  If you surrender the vehicle, you’ll need to request that we remove it, and if you decide to keep the vehicle with a salvage title, we can only offer Liability coverages.
  2. When your children get their permits, and when their permits become licenses.  Each company rates youthful drivers differently, but they all have a Good Student discount, so keep those grades up!
  3. When you retire or start working from home.  Vehicle usage can be a significant rating factor, and some companies have retiree discounts on Auto and Homeowners products.
  4. When you’re shopping for a new vehicle.  Call us when you’ve narrowed your search down to a few VINs so you’ll have an idea of what insurance will look like for your new vehicle.
  5. When you purchase a new vehicle.  Please don’t take insurance advice from a car salesman who says you have 30 days to tell your agent about a new vehicle.  You don’t.  The grace period for coverage on a new purchase varies by company, and may not include full coverage. 
  6. When you no longer need your SR-22 filing. The state does not inform us when your requirement is over.
