What does Memorial Day mean to you? Perhaps it signifies the first day of summer marked by back yard pool parties, barbecues, and baseball.  It is so much more than opening day for community pools or a three-day weekend, though.  Memorial Day is when we honor family and loved ones we have lost who served in the branches of the U.S. Military.  Americans have been commemorating this day by placing flowers at the side of every soldier’s grave since its origin as Decoration Day almost 150 years ago.

Patriotism

For the past several years, Bill Kasmann has taken time to volunteer for the Salute to Veterans Celebration.  He supports their mission to honor and serve veterans of the Armed Services, past and present, for their service to our country.  Bill enjoys the great group of people he works with, as this event requires the help of over 3,000 volunteers to ensure everything runs smoothly.  2017 will mark the 29th year that this celebration has taken place in Columbia, MO.

Air Show Weekend

The Salute to Veterans Celebration and Air Show, is actually a six-day event.  The air show takes place on the Saturday and Sunday prior to Memorial Day (May 27-28) and is located at the Columbia Regional Airport.  The show features active duty military aircraft, as well as, vintage and heritage aircraft spanning many decades.  There will also be parachute teams and tactical demonstration teams to enjoy. Admission to the air show is free. Bill encourages everyone to come, as it is a unique event that provides a moving experience any family can enjoy.

The theme for this year’s celebration is: Honoring Veterans of Every Era, Every Branch, Every Day! To show our support, Kasmann Insurance Agency is proud to co-sponsor the two United States Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II’s coming to Columbia from Whiteman Air Force Base.  Also known as “warthog(s)” or “hog(s)”, the A-10 is a single-seat, twin turbofan engine straight wing jet aircraft.  It was introduced for service in 1976 and designed solely for “close air support” of friendly ground troops and has served in numerous conflicts and operations throughout the years.

Remembering Those Who Served

As Memorial Day approaches, plan to do more than go for a swim or host a barbecue. Take a moment to honor and remember the service members of the United States Military whose sacrifices have allowed us to enjoy our freedom today.  Bill Kasmann and all of the agents at Kasmann Insurance want to wish our customers a great holiday weekend.  We hope you can make it to the air show to enjoy all the planes (including the A-10 Thunderbolt II’s) and demonstrations!  We may even see you at the parade on Monday morning.  And remember to continue “Honoring Veterans of Every Era, Every Branch, Every Day!
